Many years ago I wrote this little poem and it still makes me smile. I have learned many lessons over the years and one of them is what Christmas is really all about. It is so easy to get into the lists of things that need to be done before Christmas that we end up doing it with a crabby attitude. Well, at least I did! I remember how stressed I used to be around Christmas. I was more like the Grinch than I really like to admit. But God has a way of changing us from the inside out, and although He is not finished with me yet, He has done a good work so far.

Reading Time for story text : approx. On the night before Christmas, most of us are so distracted by the details associated with a visit from St. Nicholas that we forget about the much more important visit of God, who miraculously entered the world as a man over 2, years ago. Ultimately, he gave up his life in order to offer salvation to whoever believed in him. Truly, this is the greatest gift known to man. Though the following poem uses the famous first line of the classic, its purpose is to turn attention to Jesus and the true significance of Christmas.

Their Bibles were lain on the shelf without care In hopes that Jesus would not come there. The children were dressing to crawl into bed, Not once ever kneeling or bowing a head. When out of the East there arose such a clatter, I sprang to my feet to see what was The matter. Away to the window I flew like a flash Tore open the shutters and threw up the sash! When what to my wondering eyes should appear But angels proclaiming that Jesus was here. With a light like the sun sending forth a bright ray I knew in a moment this must be The Day!
