I have been so excited to share this post with you guys! I love a good DIY project and these Board and Batten style shutters we built for our home were actually fairly simple to make. They could easily be built in a weekend and you will have the most charming house on the block! When we bought our home a year ago last April, we knew that we wanted to add some shutters to the exterior at some point to help boost the curb appeal. We had a lot of dead space that was all brick on the side load garage part of our home. A lot of the other homes in our neighborhood had shutters already and I quickly realized that it was the Board and Batten style ones that I loved the most! When we got to the point of being ready to buy some shutters we began our research.
It truly could be someones first DIY project and they will be successful. I love sharing projects like these! I am putting these shutters and the cedar flower window box on the lake side of my Lake House Fixer Upper for lakeside appeal. Step 2 Lay the boards side by side and measure the total width of the 3 boards. Repeat on the other end.
High-quality wood board and batten shutters have been used for centuries to make American homes more comfortable, safe, and attractive. All board and batten shutters are sold primed or fully painted to completely cover all surfaces. Our composite board and batten shutters are constructed from high quality durable material that is impervious to moisture, rot, and termites. Stable composite shutters outperform wood in many categories, including longevity. ShutterLand board and batten exterior shutters are available in several standard configurations. The basic arrangement of this shutter style consists of adjacent vertical boards with two horizontal battens.
Made from high quality Select Grade lumber or composite. We feature open and closed style shutters to match your home's style. This allows us to cover all the shutter's surfaces to prevent future damage from weather deterioration. Our standard shutters feature an open and closed style shutter with the option of adding a "Z" bar for accent. Vertical boards and battens are beveled. Battens end a quarter inch from the edges of the boards. Third battens are recommended for open weave styles.
Constructed from 1" thick equally spaced, custom sized boards. Board width is determined by overall shutter width and Board count, which may be specified to achieve custom board counts. This time tested construction method is further enhanced by the use of Franklin type III, water proof exterior glue. Western red Cedar, a naturally decay-resistant wood, is the preferred choice for this exterior shutter application. Straight and light in weight, nothing matches the performance of Western Red Cedar.
