There are different types of depressive disorders. Symptoms can range from relatively minor but still disabling through to very severe, so it's helpful to be aware of the range of conditions and their specific symptoms. Major depression is sometimes called major depressive disorder, clinical depression, unipolar depression or simply 'depression'. The symptoms are experienced most days and last for at least two weeks. Symptoms of depression interfere with all areas of a person's life, including work and social relationships.

Everyone goes through periods of deep sadness and grief. These feelings usually fade away within a few days or weeks, depending on the circumstances. Throughout my entire life my mum has been my rock and, as much as I tried to push her away during these times, she stuck by me and tried to help me.

What does depression feel like?

The old adage "time heals all wounds" may have some truth behind it, but it's no cure for depression., Depression isn't a one-size-fits-all diagnosis.
