County Road under my feet Nothin' on this white rock but a little ol' me I got two miles 'til he makes bail And if I'm right we're headed straight for hell. I'm goin' home, gonna load my shotgun Wait by the door and light a cigarette He wants a fight, well now he's got one And he ain't seen me crazy yet. Slapped my face and he shook me like a rag doll Don't that sound like a real man I'm gonna show him what a little girl's made of Gunpowder and lead. Well, it's half past ten, another six pack in I can feel the rumble like the cold black wind He pulls in the drive, gravel flies But he don't know what's waitin' here this time. Hey, I'm goin' home, gonna load my shotgun Wait by the door and light a cigarette He wants a fight, well now he's got one And he ain't seen me crazy yet.

The song "Gunpowder and Lead" by Miranda Lambert is a powerful song about domestic violence. Although many people think that Miranda herself was a victim of domestic violence and wrote the song about her personal experiences this is not the case. Lamberts parents took in battered women and children throughout her childhood and this is the experience which she used to write this song. The lyrics of the song suggest that a woman should not take the physical abuse and that any woman who is being abused should stick up for themselves and not allow the abuse to continue. Although Miranda was not herself abused, she recalls a time when a women came to her home crying with a black eye which she received at the hands of her spouse; this is the women who she wrote the song about.
The best performance any of us will see tonight. They've got Lambert rocking a sparkly dress, and the cameras seem to be studiously avoiding her bass player's mohawk. Doesn't matter. A perfect example of why the Nashville assembly line still works. Yay, Miranda. Your album deserves to sell more!
It was released in January as the third single from her album Crazy Ex-Girlfriend. The song was written by Lambert and Heather Little. The song was made available as downloadable content for the game Rock Band on December 16, The song is a moderate up-tempo song in the key of G Major backed by resonator guitar. Its lyrics focus on the narrator, who tells of her plans to shoot her abusive husband once he is let out of jail. The radio edit omits sound effects which are heard on the album version: door slowly creaking open at the beginning, and the sound of a gunshot at the end with the sound of the door slowly creaking closed.
