I arise today Through a mighty strength, the invocation of the Trinity, Through a belief in the Threeness, Through confession of the Oneness Of the Creator of creation. I arise today Through the strength of Christ's birth and His baptism, Through the strength of His crucifixion and His burial, Through the strength of His resurrection and His ascension, Through the strength of His descent for the judgment of doom. I arise today Through the strength of the love of cherubim, In obedience of angels, In service of archangels, In the hope of resurrection to meet with reward, In the prayers of patriarchs, In preachings of the apostles, In faiths of confessors, In innocence of virgins, In deeds of righteous men. I arise today Through the strength of heaven; Light of the sun, Splendor of fire, Speed of lightning, Swiftness of the wind, Depth of the sea, Stability of the earth, Firmness of the rock. I arise today Through God's strength to pilot me; God's might to uphold me, God's wisdom to guide me, God's eye to look before me, God's ear to hear me, God's word to speak for me, God's hand to guard me, God's way to lie before me, God's shield to protect me, God's hosts to save me From snares of the devil, From temptations of vices, From every one who desires me ill, Afar and anear, Alone or in a multitude. I summon today all these powers between me and evil, Against every cruel merciless power that opposes my body and soul, Against incantations of false prophets, Against black laws of pagandom, Against false laws of heretics, Against craft of idolatry, Against spells of women and smiths and wizards, Against every knowledge that corrupts man's body and soul.

A number of other adaptions have been made. The prayer is part of the Liber Hymnorum , a collection of hymns found in two manuscripts kept in Dublin [1] and published in in the Thesaurus Paleohibernicus. The document gives this account of how Saint Patrick used this prayer:. Saint Patrick sang this when an ambush was laid against his coming by Loegaire , that he might not go to Tara to sow the faith. And then it appeared before those lying in ambush that they Saint Patrick and his monks were wild deer with a fawn following them. If the description above is accurate then the prayer would date from the 5th century — the time of Saint Patrick.

Take a minute out from celebrating to share a St. While we enjoy all the celebrations, we must remember, of course, that St. Patrick and to St. Blessings of St. Patrick's Bell. O God, Who didst vouchsafe to send Thy Confessor and Bishop, Blessed Patrick, to preach Thy glory to the nations, grant, through his merits and intercession, that what Thou dost command us to do, we may, by Thy mercy, be enabled to perform.

Christ be with me, Christ within me, Christ behind me and before me. Christ beside me, Christ to win me, Christ to comfort and restore. Christ beneath me, Christ above me, Christ in hearts of all who know me. Christ in mouth of friend and stranger, Christ in quiet and in roar. Love, blessed Trinity of three, Bound in unity Who guides my journey. I will arise with strength of heaven Trusting in Your light To guide my journey Shine before me Lead me home. Ear to hear me, hand to guard me, Love to conquer every fear.

St. Patrick's Prayer - Monday, March 17, 1952

The Lorica of Saint Patrick , also known as St. Patrick wrote in the fourth century. Patrick and his followers sang this magnificent prayer when traveling to pagan communities. Patrick arrived, but he completed the conversion of the entire isle to the Catholic faith. His missionaries then traveled, usually in groups of 12, to England and all over the European continent, bringing the word of God and converting pagans to the Catholic Church. We often see the bottom portion of this prayer, but it is much longer than that!

According to tradition, St. Patrick wrote it in A. The term breastplate refers to a piece of armor worn in battle. More recent scholarship suggests its author was anonymous. In any case, this prayer certainly reflects the spirit with which St. Patrick brought our faith to Ireland! This prayer has also been called The Cry of the Deer.

As I arise today, may the strength of God pilot me, the power of God uphold me, the wisdom of God guide me. May the eye of God look before me, the ear of God hear me, the word of God speak for me.,
