The tech world has a way of cannibalizing itself: Trends become standards, and progress is made. Apple was the first to announce that it would forego the headphone jack in favor of a wireless future ó despite pushback from iPhone users due to the ubiquity of the jack and the fact that removing it entirely meant removing their ability to choose what sort of headphones to use. Apple's announcement came months before the original Google Pixel, which features a standard headphone jack, made its debut on the phone market in October Samsung responded to Apple's move with criticism ó before doing a sharp course-correction and removing the jack from some of their phone models as well. So what about Google's newer phones? While the Pixel 2 and 3 notably lacked a headphone jack, the newly announced Google Pixel 3a phones follow in the path of the original Pixel by featuring one.

The Pixel 2 XL is meant to showcase everything Google has to offer. The performance is fantastic, the camera is excellent, and the software is what Google wants Android to be. Unfortunately, hardware issues have dominated the conversation instead. No device is without its issues of course, and this smartphone is definitely no exception. Note: Not every Pixel 2 XL owner will face these problems. Display issues have been particularly prominent with the Pixel 2 XL. If an issue is particularly glaring, you should pick up a replacement.
Here's why. The first problem is lack of basic compatibility. The key component is whether that headset has a DAC, or digital-to-analog converter. As its name implies, the DAC converts the digital audio into analog audio. It includes a DAC to read the digital signal from the phone. We can consider these digital USB-C dongles. I really needed a replacement Pixel 2XL dongle like right now but the dongle will often sell out.
