The Krummlauf is a perfect example of Germany's late-war obsession with impractical secret weapons to turn the tide of the World War IIówhich actually had the effect of diverting critical resources to outlandish ends. It is a curved barrel device that was clamped onto the end of an MP rifle to allow soldiers to shoot over obstacles without exposing themselves to return fire. It might be an interesting idea, but it's surely not going to change the outcome of the Battle of Berlin. Actually, development of the Krummlauf began in , when early testing was done to attached a curved 20mm barrel to an 8mm rifle. The idea was to use the curved 20mm section as a sort of trough to redirect the bullets. It was assumed that a curved barrel that was actually the same diameter as the bullet would cause too much stress and friction to workóbut that notion was disproven in later tests.
Curved Bullets is a special ability learned by some members of the Fraternity. It is an ability that allows the user to bend the bullet's trajectory to hit a target blocked by an object. Super heroes. Super villains. The never-ending struggle. But what if that battle could end? The world would rejoice.
I have been wanting to look at this whole curved bullet thing, but I wasn't sure how to approach it. Apparently, some people learn how to make bullets curve by moving their gun. Here is a shot of a bullet curving in front of someone. Maybe the picture doesn't do the clip justice, but it is enough for you to get an idea. The Build Team first went to a shooting range and set up a target with a wooden obstacle halfway between themselves and the target. Grant, Tory, and Kari each attempted to imitate the movie characters and shoot a bullet from a handgun around the obstacle by swinging the gun in an arc as they shot. No one was able to accomplish the feat. To continue testing, the team created a robot that could swing a gun at superhuman speeds. After each shot, they used a laser pointer to see if all five of the holes lined up. Even with the gun being swung by the robot, the bullet paths were completely straight.
