Warming up the engine will help suspend any contaminants or metal shaving within the old oil and also allow it to drain out more quickly. Open the hood, twist off the oil filler cap in the counterclockwise direction and lift up the yellow plastic handled dipstick an inch or two. Removing the oil filler cap and lifting up the dipstick part of the way out will help prevent a vacuum from forming and also allow the old oil to drain out faster. Locate the silver metal oil pan and the oil drain bolt. The oil drain bolt faces is on the rear edge of the oil pan and the bolt head faces towards the back of the vehicle. Be careful when you remove the oil drain bolt.

Selecting the right engine oil depends on both the proper oil specification and viscosity grade. Engine oils meeting the requirements for the vehicle should have the dexos1 approved certification mark. This certification mark indicates that the oil has been approved to the dexos1 specification. Notice: Failure to use the recommended engine oil or equivalent can result in engine damage not covered by the vehicle warranty. Check with your dealer or service provider on whether the oil is approved to the dexos1 specification. An oil of this viscosity grade will provide easier cold starting for the engine at extremely low temperatures. When selecting an oil of the appropriate viscosity grade, always select an oil that meets the dexos1 specification or equivalent.
