But that presents us with a problem. How do we approach reviews? It's not much use speculating about the future of the series when it's available at a moment's notice, but watching the whole thing in one go for a single review is impractical for anyone with a day job and personal relationships to maintain — to say nothing of how difficult it is to critically appraise 12 hours of television if you don't savour the instalments properly. That's why, instead of traditional reviews, we're trying something new. An episode-by-episode unpicking of the show, looking at its techniques, characters and use of the source material. Call them annotations, call them show notes, call them whatever you like — but hopefully it'll offer you a kind of Daredevil coverage you can't get anywhere else.

'Daredevil' recap: 'Rabbit in a Snow Storm'

Matt gets his lawyer on, and the Kingpin reveals himself. Those of us lucky enough to not have our heads impaled by spikes were treated to an intriguing third episode of Daredevil , one that—for the most part—eskewed the normal punchy-kicky routine for more legal drama, which makes sense. Matt Murdock is a lawyer after all. In this instance, we see a man named Healy, an apparent bowling enthusiast, try to join in on the game currently underway by a well protected bowler named Prohaszka. Someone who is happy to ask questions about what Matt is up to, however, is Ben Urich, a newspaper reporter with a long history in the Marvel Universe. Ben has called in a favor from a source, a man named Silvio with vague ties to the criminal world and a name that has also been in the comics for a while.

The first two episodes of the series have yet to let down on any aspects. I thought this was an awesome, yet brutal, scene. Matt definitely pushes the boundaries of what is appropriate to say to his client; even when they first meet with Wesley, Matt is firm with him. It was really great to witness Matt outside of the suit for so long in this episode and watch him be a lawyer. Ben is a well-known comic character that appears in both Daredevil and Spider-Man comics as a Daily Bugle writer.

And just after complaining about those less-than gory fight sequences, we get some doozies in this one. His earnest request about bowling contrasts nicely with the next scene, where he snaps Mr. Well, he had to. A random hour flashback shows that Turk Barrett promised him his revolver would work when it counted. I thought that flashback would be a whole episode aspect, and when it was just a onetime gag, it became my favorite bit in this already good episode — one that brings our villain into the fore, and lays out some ground rules for the Daredevil universe.

Heely then savagely beats and kills Prohaska with a bowling ball. The show quickly cuts to the past, where Heely purchases guns from an arms dealer named Turk. In the present, the Heely hides his gun in a nearby pinball machine after killing Prohaska, and waits for the police. When they arrive, he surrenders and asks for a lawyer.
