Ben Parker: Peter? I know things have been difficult lately and I'm sorry about that. I think I know what you're feeling. Ever since you were a little boy, you've.

Ben Parker is the late uncle of Peter Parker. After Peter's parents disappeared, Ben and his wife, May , took Peter in and raised him. After a break into Richard Parker 's house, Richard and Mary took Peter away to live with his uncle and aunt as a child at the age of four. As years passed, Uncle Ben and Peter were working together to fix a broken pipe in the basement. Ben went back upstairs later and Peter found an old, suspicious suitcase. He brought it upstairs to ask about it, and his uncle said the case was his dad's and that he should look inside. Peter went straight to his room and started investigating the suitcase.

Spider-Man Homecoming features all the classic element, from Mets paraphernalia to the cool suit to nerdy pratfalls, but not Uncle Ben Parker. But the decision to excise the best dude in Queens is controversial even within Marvel, where parents tend to die and Uncle Ben is held in high esteem. In the original comic, Richard and Mary Parker died when Peter was too young to remember them. That was about the size of it. It was simply a bad thing that happened. But fans and writers alike prefer webs to loose ends so, in , Richard and Mary got themselves a fully fleshed backstory in Untold Tales of Spider-Man 1, which outed them as agents of S. Obviously, parents are important, but the main parental roles in his life are Uncle Ben and Aunt May.

Benjamin " Ben " Parker , usually called Uncle Ben , is a fictional character appearing in American comic books published by Marvel Comics. Modeled after American founding father Benjamin Franklin , the character plays an influential role in the Spider-Man comic books. Uncle Ben first appeared in Amazing Fantasy 15 August and was killed in the very same issue. Although his history as a supporting character was very brief, Uncle Ben is an overshadowing figure in Spider-Man's life, often appearing in flashbacks. The murder of Uncle Ben is notable as one of the few comic book deaths that has never been reversed in terms of official continuity. He was a member of the "Big Three", referring also to Jason Todd an associate of Batman and Bucky an associate of Captain America whose notable deaths, along with Ben's, gave rise to the phrase: "No one in comics stays dead except for Bucky, Jason Todd, and Uncle Ben".

The character is frustratingly immature in both aspects of his life. Cliff Robertson was 79 when he played a loving yet assertive version of Uncle Ben in the version of Spider-Man. The characters were virtually indistinguishable. Likable, albeit vaguely grumpy old men just itching to share their age-earned wisdom and die in the street from a gunshot wound. In fact, much of the origin story in The Amazing Spider-Man was remarkably similar despite attempts at more subtle changes. Parts of the movie were actually refreshing — but not enough.
