New Location Takes History Into the Future for State Historical Society
SHSMO assists research patrons from all over the world. Whether you visit in.the how the
Beginning with the July 26, , issue of the St. A dynamic collection, some three hundred current newspapers, from every Missouri county, are added to the collection each week. The physical newspaper collection is primarily housed at the Columbia Research Center , but newspaper microfilm can be viewed at all SHSMO research centers upon request. For researchers who would like to complete research remotely, interlibrary and direct loan services are available for microfilm. The State Historical Society of Missouri is pleased to present a growing collection of digitized historic newspapers.
Until now, these collections were housed in the basement of Ellis Library on the campus of the University of Missouri. Listen Listening The library of the new Center for Missouri Studies will be open to researchers, students and citizens researching what Executive Director Gary Kremer calls 'the complexity of this place we call Missouri. The limestone of the structure comes from historic St. Genevieve County.
The State Historical Society of Missouri , a private membership and state funded organization, is a comprehensive research facility located in Columbia, Missouri specializing in the preservation and study of Missouri's cultural heritage. Established in by the Missouri Press Association and made a trustee of the state in , the Society is the official historical society of the state of Missouri and is located on the campus of the University of Missouri in Downtown Columbia, Missouri. The Society publishes the quarterly Missouri Historical Review , the only scholarly academic journal produced in the state. The Society engages in a number of outreach programs to bring Missouri's history to the public. The collection of the Society, concerning pamphlets, books, and state publications, is over , items. The new building boasts over 70, square feet with viewing access to the impressive art collection The present building will close in mid-April through mid-August as it moves into a new home.
